Asalaamu `Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu, and Shalom Aleichem...

This is a community for Muslim and Jewish sisters who practice hijab or tzniut, for sisters who want to learn more about hijab/tzniut, or for anyone else who is interested in this liberating, morally conscious practice that is at the core of Islam and Judaism.

In this community you can ask any questions you might have about hijab/tzniut and women's rights in Islam/Judaism, as long as you communicate respectfully with one another. You can also find tips on how to wear hijab/tzniut, you can get support from other sisters who wear hijab/tzniut, and links to well-reputed Islamic/Jewish clothing sites, as well as sharing current events pertaining to Islam/Judaism and women's rights and the near-global attempt at banning hijab. Please share your experiences with us! Not only will we offer you support, but your experience will also help our readers! Basically, if it has to do with women and Islam/Judaism, it's OK to post it here.

To join and post to this community, you must contact me, its sole maintainer and moderator, saturnic_tides. You should be practicing hijab or tznius. However, you do not have to be a Muslim or Jewish female to read our entries. Feel welcome to browse.

Say to the believing men that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts; that is purer for them; surely Allah is Aware of what they do. And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts and do not display their ornaments except what appears thereof, and let them wear their head-coverings over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments except to their husbands or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or those whom their right hands possess, or the male servants not having need (of women), or the children who have not attained knowledge of what is hidden of women; and let them not strike their feet so that what they hide of their ornaments may be known; and turn to Allah all of you, O believers! so that you may be successful. [Qur'an 24:30-31]

O Prophet! say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers that they let down upon them their over-garments; this will be more proper, that they may be known, and thus they will not be given trouble; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. [Qur'an 33:59]
